My first gardening experience.
I have decided to start a vegetable and flower garden this summer, and I am a complete newbie to this. I have absolutely no gardening experience! But hey, present me with a challenge and I shall take it :D Anyway, I decided that instead of buying already grown vegetable and flower plants, I would attempt to grow them from seeds! So this could turn into a complete disaster...but..... hopefully it won't!!

My cucumbers plants have outgrown their little starter homes, so I transplanted them. I had no clue that they were going to grow so fast, so I haven't bought any special pots with holes on the bottom to transplant them into. Instead I just used disposable plastic cups cut in half and small food containers. Yea, lol I'm innovative like that.

OMG MY CUCUMBER AND ROSE BABIES ARE GROWING AFTER 3 DAYS!
So I did more reading about the growth light I am using and about light in general when growing seeds. From there I realized that my light was too far away from my seeds and that it would end up making my plants reach too high to the light, which is bad. So I lowered the growth light to about 3 to 4 inches above the seedlings. I am also keeping the growth light on for 18 hours and off for 6 hours.... I am sure my husband will look at me with wide eyes once our electricity bill comes in this month..... hehe. I am also using a technique called bottom watering. Basically, you fill the bottom of the container that your pots with holes on the bottom are sitting in about 1/4 inch way up with warm water. That way the soil stays moist all the time.
I also changed the location of my plants from the storage room to the office because the water from the humidity inside the container kept on going on the wood on the top of the bed and was destroying it!
But anyway! I am so excited I can't believe that the cucumber and rose seeds germinated only after 3 days...... I have no idea what to do next with them, have to do some more reading!

So exciting! Today I planted my first seeds! I believe the correct term for this is "sowed my first seeds" lol...It saddens me to say though, I planted my cucumber seeds a month too EARLY! Silly me misread the package directions hehe. Other than cucumbers I also sowed tomatoes, peppers, and broccoli for vegetables. For flowers I sowed Lisianthus Cinderellas, ice rose, orbit rose, and lavender.
I used seedling started kits from ebay that also include a heating mat underneath them to keep the temperature warm for the seeds. I also used a growth light for plants..... I think that's what they are called??? Anyhow, here's what I have so far, as you can see Peanut and Pretzel (my 2 dogs) are bravely guarding the seeds! Also FYI this is out storage room, don't pay attention to all the crap laying around in the pictures!
